Truane's Star Expeditionary Service
Space travel during the early years was done using micro-jumps using ancient technology that would gather hydrogen and compress it into a “jump drive”. The ships would then have to get to a specific speed and then fold space and appear millions of KM away from where they started from. These jumps could only be done after a specific amount of preparation and effort and sometimes would span a week or more before another jump would be attempted.
After the colonization of the Frontier and technology research could begin again, the Pan-Galactic Corporation created the “Void Drive” which allowed starships to travel light years in seconds. Again it required 10 hours of computation and study per light year by an astrogation expert for every jump. But now travel could be done across the Frontier in days rather than months. Also ships didn’t have to get up to the high speeds required for the early jump drives. Now a ship just needs to reach “Void” speed (about .1% of Light Speed).
