Truane's Star Expeditionary Service
The field lab kit or LABKIT for short is a miniature scientific laboratory that is used in the field and fits in a large briefcase. This can be worn on someone’s back of on the front of them or carried in one hand. The case is made out of reinforced plasteel providing excellent protection (DR 10, SP 20). It is also resistant to hostile environments and has a DR 10 value against heat, cold, acid, and other corrosives. Inside the labkit an Astrobiologist can perform a number of studies. The components are:
- BioScanner: The bioscanner is several different devices that can scan without touching anything and even provide microscopic view (and detail) of any biological sample. The scanner is also has the ability to give out readings such as genetics, chemical make-up and whether or not the device is edible or poisonous. The device can also help with forensics showing wounds and help identify cause of death (used in the Forensic Skill +10% if used in conjunction with a medkit)
- VaporScanner: This set of tools is used to take gas samples and able to read out it’s elemental make up, pressure, and any if there are any contaminants (although a bioscanner must be used to figure out what the biological contaminants are). It will also indicate whether the air is breathable and if there any effects.
- GeoScanner: The final set of tools is for the study of non-organic material. it will take a sample and break it down into it’s elemental make-up. It can also be used to provide a radiological view of a surface area to tell where fault lines or mineral deposits may be. All of these scanners are used for eco-system evaluation but the GeoScanner is used the most.
- Survival Gear: The kit also comes with a quick-on hazmat suit which can be worn over your clothing and be activated within 1 round. This reduces your movement to walking speed only and your dexterity and reaction speed is halved. It provides immunity to poison, contaminates, chemicals, and corrosive materials (up to DC 20). It also comes with gloves and other protective material for gathering samples and making sure they are uncontaminated.
